Rainy Day

Being a homeowner has it's ups and downs- today I remembered one of the downs!

Quick update of my fun Saturday... Chris is in Cali working on his uncle's website, so this morning I planned on taking all the kids to a movie and lunch and having a fun day... Oops! I put them all in the showers and baths, and we were going to be ready to go play UNTIL... I heard water dripping in the kitchen and started to tell the kids to turn it off until I realized they were all upstairs. When I went to the kitchen- it was raining IN my kitchen from the can lights above the sink!!

Long day later- after cutting a hole in my kitchen ceiling, the plumber could tell me that the shower pan was leaking. The water damage restoration company tested for moisture and there's about a 6 foot space in the ceiling around 3 lights that is wet, including about a 6 foot space radiating from the shower where there is too much moisture in the tile, and going into my master closet! So now I've had 4 men in and out of the house all day, and I have 8 holes in my kitchen ceiling, 3 industrial fans, 4 ventilating hoses, 1 dehumidifier, 1 missing door casing and 1 footboard, 4 kids and no husband! I've been on the phone with plumbers, restoration people, insurance people, trying to get builder people, meanwhile trying to explain everything to Chris over the phone as well!!

And believe it or not, I'm not freaking out... and it even looks like someone is going to have to rip tile out of my shower in my beautiful bathroom! So that's my Saturday in a nutshell... but bright side is that there is no mold, and won't be because of the holes and fans- and I was able to manage everything by myself without crying and for all that I'm pretty proud of myself!

Oh, not a fun day! Good luck getting it all straightened out - it sounds like you're getting the help you need. No tears? Impressive!

I know... and the worst part was that I was sitting in my front room the whole time... and I know I heard them but figured it was our dumb cat... I wish I could have caught them, now, that would have been fun!

Oh, and there's always a hefty price tag with issues like this- the question now is who is going to get it?? Us? Insurance? Richmond? We'll see, our claims adjuster is coming on Monday...

Ahhhhh, the joys of a homeowner. Been there done that! In the end for us Salisbury gave in and fixed our problem after numberous annoying angry calls! We won in the end and we hope you do to...don't give up!

As new homeowners this is what I DONT want to hear...ha ha ha...I think we had enough drama just getting our couch to last us a few years...I hope.

Heidi I had to laugh at your comment because we just had the same thing happen to us a week and a half ago, Except it was the middle of the night and Scarlett came in to tell us that it was raining on her in her bed. Sure enough the carpet is still wet and we can't let the kids sleep in there. Luckily in our case we don't own the condo so we don't have to worry about it and it is one more insentive to get us to buys a house a soggy carpet. The roofer did come out and fix it, but the next day two more spots appeared in the family rooom ceiling. I am waiting for the next storm any day and see if it comes through. Stacey
